This is an amazing book. Mark Haddon has managed to get inside of the mind of an autistic 15 year old who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome. This imbues the whole story with a completely alien quality which one normally finds only in the very best of science fiction.
This book is a detective story – the dog in the title has been
killed on the front lawn of a neighbour’s house. The hero Christopher Boone sets
out to solve the murder despite the fact that he knows a very great deal about
Maths and Science but very little about human beings. He dislikes being touched,
cannot look people in the eye and bases his whole day on the colours of cars he
sees on the way to school.
This is a wonderful, funny and amazing book. I cannot recommend it too highly.
It has been out for a good while, so you should be able to buy it for a
discounted price. Do so on an urgent basis.
